This blog is for thinking parents, and fans of the best Q&A site for parents

Redesign in the works! First up, logos.

Happy to say we’re working on an aesthetic refresh of the Parents Guild site, blog and logo. We selected Todd Linkner to lead the daunting effort, and we’re happy we did, he’s amazing. We have no plans to change key functionality but lots of plans to refresh and “upgrade” the look and feel. And we want to take you along with us, invite your feedback, on the redesign progress.

We began with logo and brand definition. Here are some considerations:

  • Our goals for the site – to create a community and archive of thoughtful, respectful, diverse parenting viewpoints, a safe, inclusive, inviting place on the web for thinking parents (dads too!).
  • Logo criteria:

• reflects the brand attributes
• is appropriate to the audience and subject matter
• communicates the Parents Guild’s persona
• differentiates the Parents Guild from its competitors
• is immediately recognizable, unique, and memorable
• provides a clear and consistent image of the company
• is legally protectable
• has enduring value
• works well across media and scale

Todd presented us with the following logos to consider (all in black & white, color to be added later). Click to make large:Parents Guild Logos, week 1

Your thoughts and feedback are welcome!

Wow! I’ve been away (from my computer) for a couple months. Glad to see it’s happening. Looks like you have someone very capable of giving you a terrific makeover. There are a few very nice logo options on that sheet.

    Thanks Chris. We agree!

My overall favorite is 10b. FYI, some initial impressions. 4a and 4b looked like an ice cream sandwich to me at first. 1a and 1b looked like Mickey Mouse. I didn’t like the complexity of 1c and 1d because I wasn’t sure it would look good small. Tried to stay away from baby-specific images (like diapers or pacifiers) because presumably, ParentsGuild is for all parents and not just parents of babies? So in the end, I thought that 10b looked clean, classy, and on target. But logos are so subjective, so these are just my thoughts!

Thanks Evelyn! Great feedback! By 10b do you mean 10a, or some variant on 10a tbd?

FWIW, I’d try to coax the logo out of the 1s, 2s and 3s — the solution is somewhere in there.

Chris, thanks for the further feedback!

Oops! I meant 10a. I don’t know why I thought it said 10b when I looked at it. There were a lot!
